Scott Ulrich and Heath Walter, Hartington, NE. along with twenty-nine other teams competed in the Nebraska Walleye Associations two-day tournament on Lewis and Clark Lake April 25, & 26.
As it does often in Nebraska, the wind howled on Saturday, making the run from Weigand Marina, the launch and weigh in location to the river above the lake, a rough ride.
Ulrich and Walter fished in the river above the lake, using jigs and chubs, bringing in five fish weighing 9.42 pounds with their largest fish for Saturday a 2.69-pound walleye, garnering them seventh place.
On Sunday morning, day two of the event, the contestants were greeted by a clear sky with less wind than they had on Saturday.
As any walleye angler knows clear skies with no wind can be a walleye angler’s worst nightmare.
In the morning, Ulrich and Walter fished the same part of the river using the same method as they had on day one, moving to other locations as the day went on.
As Ulrich and Walter made their way to the three o’clock weigh in, they drifted one last hole where they landed their 3.76-pound big fish.
As the anglers weighed in, it looked as if one decent fish could make the difference.
Ulrich and Walter weighed in five fish for a total second day weight of 13.76 pounds, while the next closest team, Woeth and Paul’s brought in five fish that weighed 12.61 pounds.
Their second day total weight of 13.76 pounds gave Ulrich and Walter 1st place for day two, with their 3.76-pound walleye taken on Sunday being the largest fish of the tournament, giving them a nice pay day and the bragging rights for the 2015 Lewis and Clark tournament.
